AP, IB, Honors — every bump accounted for

The weighted GPA calculator, with bumps you can change.

Weighted GPA adds extra grade points for advanced courses. Standard system: +0.5 for Honors, +1.0 for AP/IB. But your district might use different numbers. This calculator lets you change the bumps, see both weighted and unweighted results side by side, and understand exactly how the weighting affects your numbers.

The math behind it.

Weighted GPA adds a bump per course level: Regular +0.0, Honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0. An A in AP Biology = 4.0 + 1.0 = 5.0 weighted grade points.

Frequently asked questions.

Districts use different bump systems. A 4.5 weighted at one school may reflect a stronger transcript than a 4.8 at another. Colleges recalculate for fairness.
They typically use +0.5 for all advanced courses rather than distinguishing AP (+1.0) from Honors (+0.5). It is a simpler system.
Standard IB courses usually get the same +1.0 as AP. IB diploma programs sometimes get +1.0 for Higher Level and +0.5 for Standard Level. Check with your school.
Not reliably. Different bump systems, course offerings, and grading standards make direct comparisons misleading. Focus on your rank within your own school.
On a standard system with AP/IB courses at +1.0, a student taking all AP classes with straight A+ grades would earn a 5.0 weighted GPA.
