The math behind it.

The US 4.0 scale maps letter grades to grade points: A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F=0.0. Plus/minus modifiers add or subtract 0.3. Percentages map to letters via school-specific brackets, with the most common being: A (93+), A- (90-92), B+ (87-89), B (83-86), etc.
